Review of Model Experiment and Structural Calculations

Review of Model Experiment and Structural Calculations for COSLInnovator

Project Overview: Review and Assessment of Model Experiment and Structural Calculations for COSLInnovator

  • Client: COSL Drilling Europe
  • Objective: This project aimed to assess the results of a model experiment conducted in 2016 and the associated structural analysis report. The goal was to evaluate the feasibility of reducing the established design loads and to identify opportunities for decreasing conservatism in existing structural calculations, all in alignment with current regulations.
  • Scope:
    • Review of Model Experiment Results (2016):
      • Verification of established slamming loads.
      • Estimation of new slamming loads using alternative statistical extreme value distributions, such as tail-fitted Weibull and Generalized Pareto distributions.
      • Exploration of potential reductions in slamming loads, including the impact of trim adjustments.
    • Review of Structural Report (ref. /2/) and Current Regulations (ref. /1/):
      • Establishment of new extreme value distributions in line with current regulations.
      • Exploration of opportunities to reduce slamming loads, including the impact of trim adjustments.
