Engineering Support: Net Replacement on Ocean Farm 1

Overview
Engineering IDS provided engineering and analytical support for the replacement of the net structure on Ocean Farm 1, a pioneering offshore fish farm operating in exposed marine conditions. The work aimed to ensure structural integrity, safe operations, and optimized design for the new net and mooring configuration.

Objective
Ensure safe and efficient replacement of Ocean Farm 1’s net structure through design validation, structural assessment, and operational planning.

Scope of Work

Perform hydrodynamic and structural analyses using Aquasim and OrcaFlex.

Responsible for model test specification, setup, and follow-up of physical model testing.

Evaluate net line behavior and verify structural capacity of the fish cage.

Support design development with updated 3D modeling and drawing extraction.

Conduct HAZID/HAZOP workshops and risk assessments to ensure operational safety.

Methodology

Perform fatigue assessments and evaluate operational scenarios for net replacement, including location assessment (in-field or inshore).

Document marine operations and coordinate with DNV for fatigue life verification.

Results
The study confirmed that the new net configuration could be safely implemented. Risk-reducing measures were identified and incorporated into the final design, and marine operations were optimized for safe execution under both offshore and inshore conditions.
